House On The Rock: Touching Lives Through PROJECT SPREAD
The “touch a life today” meaning of Christmas as feared to be almost inexistent in the world today was fully in play on the 19th of December, 2014. The House on the Rock Church, Lagos reached out to over 2,400 people in four communities sharing good tidings and great joy through gifts, free health supplements, medical check-ups & supplies, food and more.
The outreach which was tagged, Project Spread was done with the goal of reaching out to the less privileged in Makoko, Ijesha, Jakande and Isale Eko communities all in Lagos state. According to the organizers, this was an opportunity to show and share with Nigeria the true meaning of Christmas, as “Christmas is a special time for us as we celebrate the birth of our Saviour Jesus Christ. It is also a time of sharing gifts because the coming of Jesus Christ into the world is the ultimate gift which humanity received. It is only appropriate for us to extend gifts and indeed our love to those around us especially those who cannot afford to celebrate as elaborately as we can. This is why we are undertaking this initiative at a time like this.”
Great joy the residents of these communities must have felt as children parties were thrown, medical check-ups and health supplements given, with everyone going home with food items, gifts and more.
Pastor Paul Adefarasin, the Senior Pastor of House on the Rock Church, who visited some of these locations, was present to hand out gifts and words of merriment to the people. Christmas to him is all about giving, and for this reason, the House on the Rock Church through Project Spread is putting smiles on the faces of the people who may not have been able to afford celebrate Christmas. In addition, he says “Lagos State can be better than it is but the church must play her part”.
One of the biggest churches in Nigeria, House on the Rock is associated with several communal initiatives especially in the area of Health and Education. Recently, it organized The Experience Lagos, a music concert where people from different denominations gather together for a night of praise, worship and intercession for Nigeria and her people.
